Discover Paris in the rain

The equinox is on its way and March 20th sees the return of spring to the northern hemisphere. It’s becoming warmer, but it has to be admitted that here in Paris the weather may not be as sunny as we might wish. So please bear in mind that if you have a trip to the City of Light planned in the coming weeks you may find yourself dealing with the occasional shower. However, and this is where the magic of the French capital comes in, regardless of the vagaries of climate and temperature, you need never be short of ideas for things to do in this city of art, culture, history…and shopping.

Paris in the Rain: an idea for your consideration

The success of your trip to Paris depends to a great extent on your selection of accommodation, so we have a suggestion. The Hotel Sophie Germain, in the 14th arrondissement, would be a great base from which to explore the city. Located on the left bank of Paris, near the famous Place Denfert-Rochereau and the vibrant Latin Quarter where the youth of Paris gathers, the Hotel Sophie Germain will delight you with its high-end service and the comfort of its rooms. We can reassure you that within easy reach of our excellent establishment there is a multitude of places of cultural, historical and, indeed, retail interest to keep you happy if the rain should fall.

Paris: city of museums and a world of discovery

Once you have settled into your room in the Hotel Sophie Germain you’ll be ready to start your exploration of the most beautiful city in the world. While some places require warmth and sunshine to enjoy them to the fullest, others are definitely worth your time, whatever the weather. You can spend entire days at the Louvre, for example, and still not see all that this amazing place has to show you. The Musée d’Orsay will also amaze you with its matchless collection of art from the mid-19th to early 20th centuries. You’ll also want to take a tour of the Petit Palais, which houses the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts and has a magnificent collection of works of art going back to ancient times.

If your interest runs more to the indigenous art and cultures of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas, then the Quai Branly Museum is the essential place for you. Then, if it’s still raining and you've had your fill of museums and historical monuments, perhaps it’s time for a little retail therapy in the beautiful covered passageways of Paris. The Galerie Vivienne located at 4 Rue des Petits-Champs, the Galerie Vero-Dodat at 19 Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau and the Passage des Panoramas at 11 Boulevard Montmartre are all beautiful shopping arcades which, in addition to protecting you from the rain, will help you pass some delightful moments as you discover beautiful things to buy.
